Belfast Date Spots: The History

There were hundreds and bars in the past that have closed. Some of them were staples of the community while others were just fly by nights. Industry failures and trading difficulties were a few of the reasons. People were beginning to drink their liquor at home as an alternative. Some bars and clubs also had a hard time getting licensed. Auntie Annie's located on Dublin Road, for example was one of the businesses that closed down abruptly. The Point in east Belfast and the Phoenix located in Newry are two other bars that closed their doors. The Botanic Inns Limited was one of the busiest and popular bars in Northern Ireland. Well, they had to close due to unpaid rent. It had fourteen venues, which were all affected. There were some bars that experienced a decline in alcohol sales and had to shut down. Pubs of Ulster was one of them with that issue. The M Club was also a very popular venue for University students and locals. They played disco music on Fridays. The student population may not have been enough to maintain sales and so the club closed down. The Rain Club had a beach and this was certainly a treat for locals. While it was in operation, there were many visitors and locals that supported it. The Milk Club changed hands and was taken over by another owner, naming the club T-Street Warehouse, which became quite vibrant and active, but later closed its doors. Tokyo Joe's opened its doors in 1988 as a dance music club, playing all sorts of music. There were many DJs that played there until as late as 6AM. No one knows why this club closed. The Venue was a gathering place for people that loved metal music. They operated a teenage disco area for over 18 year olds. However, this is no longer around. The Bambu Beach Club was a cheesy and cheap night club of yesteryear. This could be the reason that it never lasted. The Vicos Vicos Club had four floors of insane soundtrack that brought the house down. It subtle closed its doors, for whatever reasons. In 1994, a club named The Network was established on North Street for several years. The Stiff Kitten Club did not remain open for a long time after it opened.
